This is a 13 second “Then and Now” video showing the location of Mack Sennett’s Keystone Studios Cyclorama on Glendale Blvd in Echo Park.
Every weekday rush hour traffic on Glendale Boulevard in Echo Park comes to a halt. If Mack Sennett’s Cyclorama was still there, at least there’d be something to look at.
This is early test footage attempting to place Mack Sennett’s cyclorama along modern day Glendale Blvd. Set back from the street, the Cyclorama was used as a rotating background while the actors ran in place on a treadmill, creating the illusion of speed.
The two houses at the top are still there. The placement of the camera is a little below where it likely would have been due to overgrowth on the Effie stairway above Glendale.
This was made for a talk at the Echo Park Film Center ‘s outdoor screening series celebrating the 100th anniversary of Keystone Pictures.
